Our Program

The children’s program is designed to promote the whole development of the child - that is the educational, social and linguistic, emotional and physical.  At Oakhill, we work towards fostering and developing these areas in children through the implementation of the Australian and Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Frameworks.  Our program allows for the learning styles and abilities of all children.  We believe that young children learn best by doing, so we provide a balance between structured and informal, child initiated and adult supported experiences in which the children may use a range of equipment and materials both in and outdoors.

Our program is also interest based and if an activity is a great success we will often extend on this experience to further explore the learning potential of the children. Alternatively, if something is not enjoyed as much as we hoped, we may not continue to offer this experience or may alter it in accordance to the children’s needs.   Our program encourages the voice of the children, as well as family involvement.  We encourage spontaneous learning which stems from either the child’s ideas, interests or a special skill/interests families wish to share.

National Quality Standard

The National Quality Standard (NQS) promotes continuous quality improvement.  Children's education and care services covered under the Education and Care Services National Law are assessed and rated against the NQS. The process reflects a uniform approach to assessment and reporting across the range of service settings. The relevant regulatory authority in each state undertakes the assessment and rating process.

Ratings promote transparency and accountability and help parents assess the quality of education and care services available. Every service receives a rating for each quality area and an overall rating. These ratings must be displayed by each service and are published on the ACECQA and the MyChild websites.

In July 2014 Oakhill Kindergarten was rated as Exceeding National Quality Standard in all seven areas of the National Quality Standard.  This is the highest possible rating that can come out of this assessment.

Family involvement

At Oakhill we encourage family involvement in our program.  Parents are encouraged to attend a kindergarten session with their child each term.  At the beginning of each term a roster will be placed in the foyer area for parents to select a suitable day to put their name down for a share day with their child. Parents may choose to stay for all or part of the session. There are also special events during the year such as Mothers/Special Person's afternoon tea, Fathers/Special Person's evening and family nights.
